You do not need to become an athlete before a trek, but arriving with a base of walking fitness makes long days more enjoyable. The most useful training is usually consistent and specific: walking on varied terrain, building leg and core strength, testing your footwear and learning how your body responds to effort. This plan is a general framework, not a medical clearance.
Weeks 1–2: establish a baseline
Walk at a comfortable pace several times a week and note how you feel the following day. Add gentle mobility and simple strength exercises such as sit-to-stands, step-ups and calf raises if these are appropriate for you. Start with manageable sessions; the goal is consistency, not soreness.
