Nepal looks small on a map, but travel days can take longer than expected. A mountain road that appears short may involve winding terrain, construction or weather delays; a trek also needs time for walking, rest and altitude adjustment. The best itinerary is not the one with the most pins on a map. It is the one that leaves enough room to enjoy where you are.
Before you choose your route
Start with three questions: how many full days do you have after arrival, do you want mountains or a mix of culture and nature, and how comfortable are you with long drives or multi-day walking? If trekking above 3,000 metres, plan gradually and keep spare time for weather or health. Domestic flights can be delayed, so avoid connecting an international flight immediately after a mountain flight.
